Swing Bed Program. What is Swing Bed? Our Mission Munising Memorial Hospital and Health Services strives to be the provider of choice for primary medical and hospital care for the residents of Alger County.

Your Care Team. Clothing Patients are welcome to wear their own clothes appropriate for therapy. Activities Patients participate in a variety of daily activities to enhance and help achieve independence. Specific criteria that must be met to qualify for payment of the swing bed program: Swing bed stay must be related to a hospital stay. The doctor must determine a need for daily skilled care Examples: IV therapy, skin and would care, physical therapy, occupational therapy or speech therapy.
Patient must be willing to participate in the daily skilled care. A patient must be hospitalized as an Acute Care Patient for a minimum of 3 consecutive days. Observations days do not count towards these days. It must be within 30 days of the hospital stay. We understand that it may be hard to know what to do when a family member or friend is not ready or able to return home immediately after hospitalization from a major illness or surgery.
Sometimes patients need skilled services to return to their home safely. RCH Swing Bed services provide a viable alternative to a skilled care facility, such as a nursing home. Through our service, patients receive exceptional skilled care with an emphasis on maximizing health and rehabilitation potential.
Our primary objective is to assist patients and their families in meeting their individual goals so they can return home. Patients should always check with their physician to see if Swing Bed care is something that would be beneficial.

The Swing Bed Extended Hospital Stay Program is paid for by Medicare and most Medicare Advantage plans as long as the Medicare clinical necessity guidelines for skilled nursing care are met. Most Medicare supplements will pay any co-pays or deductibles if there are any. We will assist you in determining your financial responsibility. Rehabilitative therapies include physical, occupational, and speech therapies.
Our team of professionals will develop an individualized plan of care based on your specific needs and goals. Therapy sessions are conducted in short frequent sessions throughout the day in order for you to rest and rejuvenate between sessions.
